So my mind and body are in a battle lately.
How many runs is too many?
I set a goal at the beginning of this year to compete in 13 events. I didn’t tie myself down to runs only or specific distances, just wanted to participate in 13 run/walk events for the year 2013.
I have the first 10 all worked out and signed up for already, but am still sorting out the last three. So far I have done 2 half marathons, a 10k and a 5k. I have 4 more 5k’s, a 10k and a half in the roster through labor day. The remaining three races will be Sept-Dec.
Somehow i got it in my head that I want to do a 4th half this year to round it out and put me at 5 total halfs before i head into my first full in January. That seemed totally do-able and still somewhat sane.
Now the competative (with myself) side of me is thinking of adding in two more half marathons to take me to 5 total for the year and 6 total in my lifetime. I promise the last race would be a 5k (I’m thinking 5k turkey trot locally).
My question is…is that too many half marathons too close together?
I got the all-clear from my doctor yesterday on my foot — no broken bones, but she’s sending me to a podiatrist to see why I am having pain (see my Nike DC post and I’ll do another post on the pain itself later).
I’m looking at the following schedule for Sept-Jan. Is it crazy? Will I hurt myself? Thoughts? Input??? Please!
8/31 – 10k Disneyland
9/1 – 13.1 Disneyland
10/20 – 13.1 Hershey, PA
11/17 – 13.1 Philadelphia, PA
11/28 – 3.1 locally
1/12 – 26.2 WDW Marathon
